ครูสำเนียง ได้สั่งสมภูมิปัญญาในการอนุรักษ์และพัฒนาศิลปะการทำหัวโขนด้วยกรรมวิธีแบบโบราณ และค้นพบองค์ความรู้ใหม่อีกมากมาย เช่น ค้นพบว่ากระดาษสาจากเชียงใหม่ เป็นวัสดุพื้นบ้านที่เหมาะสมอย่างยิ่งในการทำหัวโขนให้คงทนสวยงาม ปรับประยุกต์การใช้สีทาหัวโขนด้วยการนำสีสมัยใหม่มาใช้แทนสีฝุ่นแบบเก่า ทำให้มีคุณสมบัติที่ดีกว่า สีสดใสกว่า สีโดนน้ำแล้วไม่หลุดลอก ทั้งเป็นช่างหัวโขนคนแรกที่นำสังกะสีมาทำเป็นวงขอบยึดโครงหัวโขนให้แน่นหนา ซึ่งถือเป็นนวัตกรรมใหม่ของการทำหัวโขน

Master Samnieng has gained wisdom for conserving and developing the art of mask making using ancient methods as well as discovering new knowledge; for example, it was found that mulberry paper which is local material is perfect for making beautiful, durable masks. Painting technique has been adapted by using modern paints instead of power colors as originally used which results in better quality and more colorful products. When the mask is wet, the paints are not peeled off. The master is the first mask craftsman who used zinc to make frames to strengthen the masks structure. It can be considered innovation of mask making.
